Hi

I noticed that in the installed distributed generation trends report it now includes solar with and without battery. Can you please tell me how this is determined and therefore how accurate a measure this may be. Thanks

See the notes on the More information tab of the Installed distributed generation trends report, especially note #1.

The fuel type field in the registry is populated by distributors.

Yes, I'm interested to know this as well.

Some specific questions I'd love to have clarified.

  • Are there really 40MW (ish) of solar plus batteries installed or might these be "battery ready" installations.
  • Is any of the ramp/spike of installations (I think data indicates c. 30% of new solar installs as solar + battery) recategorisation of earlier installs or is this just limited to new installs
  • With average new residential solar+battery @ c. 6kW, my interpretation of the data is this is the max output of either the solar or battery (which makes sense to me) not the sum of the two (as I interpreted from the notes "Where there are multiple generators at an ICP the capacity is summed"). Is my interpretation correct?

Thanks Phil. I read the note 1 but it wasn't clear to me where this information came from so thanks for clarifying. I would suggest the wording could be improved by noting this is from Fuel Type in the registry.

Cheers guys. I've tweaked some of the wording/ordering on the notes page.

Tim,

1. Yes, I believe these are batteries installed

2.1 As per the notes page, yes there has been some recategorisation recently around solar/battery/solar+battery/other. Unfortunately, it can be impractical to backdate changes in the registry. So yes, there are spikes due to this recategorisation when selecting counts and totals for the show parameter.

2.2 However, selecting either of the 'new installations' options will reflect ICPs that have not had any DG registered previously. As such, there should be no recategorisation issues and I'd expect these numbers to be accurate.

3. I've tweaked that note too. The registry field is supposed to contain the lesser of summed generation capacity or inverter/injection capacity. For more guidance around the population of these DG fields please refer to this document.
