Hi, is there a dashboard with national hydro storage - ideally by island and then by catchment - relative to long run averages.

Thanks

Chris

Yes, sort of.

Check out the historical electricity risk curves report on the environment menu.

The Region parameter allows you to toggle between South Island and New Zealand. You should also experiment with the options under the other parameters - especially 'Show' and 'Series filter' to get a visualisation of just what you want.

Hi Phil, regarding the above, is it possible to see the charge and discharge data from pumped hydro storage as opposed to the how much energy is stored at a given time?

New Zealand doesn't have any pumped hydro storage of any note.

Hi

I'm trying to find in historical electricity risk curves report under Data the 'Controlled Storage' series but it's currently missing in all the data show reports?

Thanks

Edna

(From the more information tab)
"Hydro data (storage and/or inflows) is sourced from NZX hydro (data provided by NIWA) and is not available for download. Please see https://energy.nzx.com for more information. In this report controlled storage in the North Island includes Lake Taupo, and in the South Island, Lakes Tekapo, Pukaki, Hawea, and Te Anau and Manapouri."

We do also have historic storage values available in the Hydrologocal Modelling Dataset here. Note, an update through to Dec 2024 is in the pipleline.
