Question on Retailers' Obligations to Provide General Tariff Data

Hi everyone,

I need some help regarding the clarification on the Electricity Industry Participation Code Amendment (Access to Retail Tariff Information) 2015.

When I asked a retailer for their general tariff data, they directed me to their website. However, the website requires entering a specific address to see tariffs for different regions.

Is this approach compliant with the amendment, or should the retailer provide a consolidated list of all tariffs without needing to input an address? Additionally, can the retailer charge a fee for providing this information if they argue a consolidated list of tariff data is not their normal format for providing tariff information?

Thanks for your help!

Best regards,

Evon

Hi Evon

No, you shouldn’t have to give a specific address. See clause 11.32G:

11.32G Retailers must provide information about generally available retail tariff plans

(1) If any person asks a retailer to provide information about 1 or more of the retailer's current generally available retail tariff plans, the retailer must give the requested information to the person no later than 5 business days after receiving the request.

(2) If the person requests that information be provided under subclause (1) in a manner or format that differs from the manner or format the retailer typically uses to provide such information, the retailer may impose a reasonable charge for providing the information in the manner or form requested.

There is little guidance on this clause, however the retailer shouldn't charge a fee for providing the information.

Thanks

Hi Samhales,

Thank you so much for your clarification and help.

I will reach out to the retailers again to see if they are willing to provide the all-region tariff data. Hopefully, they’ll comply with the requirements outlined in the Electricity Industry Participation Code.

Thanks again for your assistance!

Best regards,
